The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program is a recreational series of gentle exercises performed in a heated, four-foot deep pool. This course is designed to help increase joint flexibility with the benefits of warm water to provide buoyancy and resistance. Arthritis Foundation trained instructors conduct the sessions. It is not necessary to know how to swim. The effectiveness of the AFAP is shown by participants who reported significant positive differences in their ability to perform activities of daily living and in their pain level. In short, the program helps to relieve the pain and stiffness caused by arthritis.
